Pfenex Drug Discovery Team is seeking a highly motivated, talented, detail-oriented Associate Scientist II/Scientist with strong In Vivo experience to support novel target discovery and drug development.  


  • Develop and characterize new in vivo disease models, to study biologic mechanisms and support exploration of novel therapeutics.
  • Design and conduct in vivo studies to evaluate efficacy, generate PK/PD profile and idenfy biomarkers.
  • Conduct routine blood and tissue collection, primary cell isolation
  • Collaborate across groups to plan, execute and analyze in vivo studies
  • Analyze data, keep meticulous record and maintain notebooks in accordance of company rules
  • Provide expertise to other colleagues in the company
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and perform general laboratory duties as require


  • MS or PhD in Biological Sciences or related field
  • Minimum -5 years of biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience is required for MS; minimum 2+ years of biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience is required for PhD
  • Strong animal handling skills and hands-on in vivo pharmacology skills, including cell line work, preparation of test compounds, dosing (oral, IV, IP), blood and tissue collection for PK and PD biomarker analysis experience with isolate primary cell culture, human or/and rodent blood is a must
  • Experience working with preclinical tumor models, including mouse handling, tumor cell implantation, tumor growth analysis.
  • Proven track record of working with CROs and academic labs
  • Hand-on with PK/PD model development is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and GraphPad Prism; FlowJo is a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills, able to multi-task and excited for hand-on laboratory research
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be a team player and perform at a high level in a matrixed drug discovery environment
  • Level will be commensurate with experience
